How much does it cost?

$20 per person for a 60 minute session time.

Is it safe?

Safety is our top priority. The format we use and the construction of the throwing lanes are all focused on the safety of the participants. Participants throw side-by-side from individual lanes. Each session is accompanied by an Axepert event coordinator/throwing coach, responsible for keeping score as and ensuring safety protocols are adhered to and all tournaments are fully supervised. Only two active competitors are allowed within the throwing area. All other guests are required to wait in the safety zone behind the lanes or lounge.

How does it work?

Sessions are booked online for 60 minute increments( we also have walk-in and private sessions available). All events start with safety instructions and throwing practice, led by our onsite Axepert in a private throwing area. Once you’ve sharpened your skills, we’ll kick off a series of competitive games followed by a final elimination round to award an axe-throwing champion. Relax and enjoy the sport – our Axepert makes planning easy by assisting with scoring and overall game flow. Individuals can book space online, but may be paired with other groups as-needed.

What if I think I may go over my booking size or time?

If more people want to join in the fun (who wouldn’t?) and you think you’re group will exceed the time or group size booked, email ASAP. The more notice the better! Please note, we tend to sell out quickly! Planners will make every effort to accommodate your needs, but can’t guarantee changes to your reservation. If this happens you simply have to tell your friend’s neighbor “no” and cap your reservation.

Will someone teach me how to do this?

A trained Axepert will oversee your session beginning with safety rules, throwing tips and instructions. Axe throwing is fun for all - Regardless of a person’s size or strength. Once you stick your first bullseye, you’ll be hooked on hurling!

Is there an age limit?

The recommended age is 11+. All participants are required to sign a waiver. Any minors (under age 18) are required to complete a waiver with parent or guardian’s signature. Print waiver

What do I need to wear?

Closed-toe shoes are required. It is helpful to have a loose-fitting shirt that allows for a full range of arm motions, otherwise, attire is up to you! If you want to wear a tu-tu, track suit, or ball gown go for it!

Am I allowed to bring food, beverage or alcohol?

Food and beverage not prepared and/or served by Big Thrill Factory is strictly prohibited, however Big Thrill Factory offers a huge variety of chef-crafted menu options including handmade pizza, wings, sliders, signature sandwiches, decadent desserts, craft beer and wine selections. Food and beverages can be purchased in-store. Select items may be available online when purchased in advance.

What is Indoor Competitive Axe Throwing?

Axe throwing as an indoor competitive sport has taken off in Canada over the past decade. Similar to darts, axe throwing is an individual sport played with and against other members of a group. Individuals throw hatchets at wooden targets marked with a bullseye and score points based on where on the target they stick the axe.

Are walk-ins welcome or do I need to book in advance?

Groups must book in advance. Walk-in throwing is available (8 throws for $4). We are open 7 days a week and also offer corporate and private event packages. If you would like to inquire about day-of availability email

What if more people want to come after I already booked my reservation?

The group size you booked online tells us how many throwing lanes your group needs. Check online to see if additional space is available. If you are booking day-of or if space is full, email

I went to book on the site, but it says “This must be booked 1 day in advance.” Do I have any options to come in at this point? Help!

Although it isn’t typically an option - and we always recommend booking much further in advance, sometimes we do have the availability to get you in at less than 24-hours-notice. The only way to do this is to email We are happy to check if space is available.

Big Axes Hurling Hall is now available at both our Oakdale and Minnetonka locations!

What if I don't have a group, how can I participate?

You don’t need a group to participate! Individuals are welcome to book online and will be paired with other groups as-needed.

Is there parking?

Ample parking is available on site. Feel free to consider alternative transport options such as taxis or ride-sharing services such as Uber, Lyft, etc. and drink responsibly!

How do I pay?

We accept most major credit cards online. Payments can be made directly from our booking page. Cash and checks are not available at this time.

Do you allow spectators?

Spectators have to view from outside the axe throwing lanes. Paid participants and their guests can spectate when not throwing from several viewing areas inside the Hurling Hall including a lounge space with tables and chairs.

Can we take pictures and videos?

Definitely, you will want to remember your first bullseye. We’d also love for you to tag us on Instagram, Facebook and Tweet us!

What about accessibility?
